I CAN'T OPEN MY DOCUMENTS FROM THE START MENU

If you click Start | Documents | My Documents in Windows 98 or Windows 98 Second Edition, you may receive the following error message:

"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in My Computer by clicking View and then clicking Folder Options."

This can occur if the registry contains the following key entry:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}\shell\open

To look for this key, you must use the Registry Editor. To start the Registry Editor, press the Windows logo key plus R, type regedit, and click OK.

Navigate through the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT tree to locate the key mentioned above. When you find it, select it and press [Delete] to remove it.

NOTE: As always, we'll remind you that editing the registry can be risky, so be sure you have a verified backup before making any changes.
