COMBINE THE BEST OF MY COMPUTER AND WINDOWS EXPLORER

The most obvious difference between My Computer and Windows Explorer is the number of panes that each applet displays. My Computer shows one pane and Explorer shows two. The differences are a bit deeper, however.

When you open My Computer, the single pane displays a list of all local drives, network drives, etc. on the system. Despite the extra information pane, Explorer shows only the contents of the drive Windows is installed onto, usually the C: drive. To navigate to another drive within Explorer, you must scroll or collapse the default drive.

You can combine the best aspects of both navigation applets (Explorer's two-paned interface and My Computer's default comprehensive drive list) with a custom Explorer shortcut. Simply create a shortcut with the following command line:

Explorer.exe /n,/e,/select,C:\

When you double-click the shortcut, Explorer will open with an ordered list of drives in the left-hand pane and the C: drive highlighted in the right-hand pane.
