DISABLING THE LOW ON DISK SPACE MESSAGE

If your Windows 98 is a laptop with a small hard disk, or even a PC that traffics many downloads, you may receive the following message:

Hard Disk is Low on Disk Space

You are running out of disk space on drive C.

To free space on this drive by deleting old or unnecessary files, click Disk Cleanup.

As you can see, Windows will offer you the opportunity to use the Disk Cleanup Utility to reclaim used disk space. However, if you run this utility regularly, it is likely unable to reclaim much space. Storage capacity can also be a problem if you use compressed drives; the host drive may constantly be reported as being low on disk space.

If utilizing the near maximum of your current memory capacity is an unavoidable necessity, you have limited choices for dealing with the constant low memory message: change your system hardware, clean out unnecessary files, or turn off the notification.

To disable the low memory notification, click on Start | Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Disk Cleanup.

In the Drives box, select the drive you want to disable notification for and click OK.

Click on the Settings tab and deselect the "If this drive runs low on disk space, automatically run Disk Cleanup."

When you are prompted by "Are you sure you want to delete files," click on No.
