RETAIN WINS SERVER ADDRESSES

Windows 9x PCs that are connected to TCP/IP-based Windows NT networks often use WINS servers to resolve NetBIOS names, such as computer names and NT domain names, to IP addresses.

Configuring Windows 9x computers to use these servers is simple. If the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is used, either the administrator configures them with DHCP options, or the PCs are manually set to look for a Primary and Secondary server in the WINS tab of the Network applet, which is located in the Control Panel.

When you reboot a PC after manually setting only a Primary WINS server, it's possible that the setting won't be retained. Try the following solution: Enter both a Primary and a Secondary WINS server IP address, even if they are the same. Reboot the PC and verify that the settings are saved.
