USING DOCUMENT SCRAPS

Try this neat little trick for manipulating documents using the Windows desktop as a big clipboard for commonly used "scraps" of text.

Open up Word, or even WordPad (Write.exe or Wordpad.exe), and open a document you have been working on. Locate some text in that document that you may often use in your documents. Perhaps this is a disclaimer paragraph or some directions to your place of work. see the Windows desktop, and drag the selected text out onto it.

The cursor will show a plus sign as it copies the text out. The selection will be deposited onto the desktop as an icon with a "Document scrap ." description.

To use the scrap, you don't have to double-click on the icon. Just drag it from the desktop into an open document and the text will be added at the word processor's current insertion mark.
