Accurate Eritrea-specific Models: This data is produced from
country-specific research that utilizes publicly accessible satellite data
and geographic modeling techniques that optimize resolution and
accuracy. The methods employed in this research are cheap and easy
from a technical point of view, but they provide increased accuracy for
the resulting esitmates. The increased accuracy results from the
fact that the correlations and models are calibrated specifically for
Eritrea. This allows estimates of the relevant parameters to be much
more detailed than data derived from more general regional maps and
estimates. Furthermore the data contained at this site is produced by
researchers who have lived and worked in Eritrea for several years. This
familiarity with Eritrean conditions allows the geographic models to be
more efficently customized for the Eritrean case.
Information and Self Reliance: A fundamental principal of Eritrea's national development program is 'progress through self-reliance.' Yet technical assistance, consultant studies, and international data services remain some of the areas in which Eritrea retains a measure of dependence on foreign countries and resources. This manifests itself in millions of dollars per year that the Eritrean government continues to receive for technical assistance. Much of this technical assistance is received from both the United Nations and bilaterial aid programs for foreign consultant studies. This site aims to reduce this dependency by providing detailed technical information for free. In addition, the creators of this site are committed to cooperating with all Eritreans in this on-going volunteer research, and providing technical assistance and instruction as needed. Electronic Technical Library and Research Archive: This site will also soon provide an electronic link archive and technical research paper archive. This archive will provide an on-line location for publishing research results, theses, and technical papers. It will also provide a one-stop on-line repository for Eritrea-specific research and data. Eritrea Technical Exchange: This site is brought to you by the Eritrea Technical Exchange (ETE), a project of the International Collaborative for Science Education and the Environment. ETE was founded in 1995 to support e-mail development, education and research in Eritrea. It provides technical support and U.S. Internet connection services for Eritrean e-mail service providers. It also supports research and information services development on a range of topics. This site and most of the research contained herein has been organized by an individual volunteer researcher: Dr. Robert Van Buskirk (See resume)
